Football Pass Accuracy
Calculate Football Pass Accuracy instantly with the exact formula and a worked example.
Football Pass Accuracy
Turn “accurate passes out of total” into a pass-completion percentage, and see straight away how many passes went astray.
How the calculation works
Enter the total number of passes attempted and how many were accurate, i.e. reached a teammate. The calculator applies the standard ratio: accurate passes ÷ total passes × 100%. It also shows the number of inaccurate passes, which is simply total minus accurate.
This is the same pass-completion figure you see in match stats: a pass counts as completed when a teammate receives it. Most data providers count open-play passes, but rules on crosses, throw-ins and clearances differ between sources, so compare numbers from the same provider.
If you type more accurate passes than total passes, the calculator flags it as an input error. The total cannot be zero.
Worked example
A team attempts 600 passes in a match and completes 510. Pass accuracy = 510 / 600 × 100% = 85%, with 90 inaccurate passes. A midfielder who completes 55 of 62 passes has an accuracy of 88.7%.
Things to keep in mind
- A percentage without context can mislead: a centre-back playing short sideways passes can easily hit 90%+, while a playmaker attempting risky forward balls will score lower.
- Volume matters: 100% from 8 passes says less than 86% from 70.
- To assess attacking play, calculate accuracy separately for forward passes or passes into the final third — just enter those counts as their own sample.
- Compare players in the same position and competition; team style shapes the numbers heavily.
